Defining and broadening the term: competence (At Kinder Uni Camp)

Date:
February 1, 2013 - February 2, 2013

This footage comes from a workshop, where the youngsters still were in the process of getting to know each other and break down the formal and cultural barriers that were in between them from the start.

This is a good example on the risk of giving something of yourself in a social construction, returns the investment with interest, so do speakSmile

EAFIT's visit to ACUP

Date:
February 1, 2013 - February 15, 2013

Ana María Londoño from the Universidad de los ninos EAFIT, Columbia visit to ACUP - Catalan Association of Public Universities.

  • It was out first Mentoring Associates' visit.
  • EAFIT: "getting to know the model of the Catalonian Children’s University"
  • To identify similarities and differences between both of the Children’s Universities.
Monday 11 Tuesday 12
  • Meeting 1: Get to know the work team
  • Meeting 2: Montserrat, director of ICE
  • Meeting 3:David and Ana, operators of UdeN2.cat (ICE UB)

Meeting to review the impact evaluation plan for UdeN2.cat.

Wednesday 13 Thursday 14 Friday 15

Activity in universities:

  • UB (Nutrition faculty)
  • UAB (veterinary faculty)
  • Visit of the campus Ítaca, directors of 51 schools.

Visit to schools:

  • Saint Antoni
  • “El sol y la luna”
  • Emili Carle i Tolra

Meeting 3 - Closing meeting:
Planning the visit to Medellin.

The EAFIT team had a glipse of the UdeN2.cat from the different publics: children, professors, directors and teachers of schools, organizers, similar projects (Itaca project and Centro de Recursos Pedagógicos).

We found similarities on the intentions of the ACUP and EAFIT programs, and affinity in methodologies between EAFIT CU and some of the visited schools (i.e. El Sol y la Luna).

The identified differences are: the size and dedication of the team, the model of the Children’s Universities, and the maturing of the projects : ACUP, 3 years, EAFIT, 8 years. The EAFIT model works from within the University, and ACUP works from the outside of eight universities. The EAFIT team finds that exchange between kids and professors works very well in the day of CU activities in Barcelona.

After this visit, we feel that we need to review and maybe make changes to our mentoring plan.

Next steps in the action plan and if required possible modifications in the action plan:

  • Meeting via Skype to review the mentoring plan (Could not be done due to technical problems in the ACUP’s infrastructure).
  • Visit to Medellín, from ACUP, to know the EAFIT model

Individuals involved in the meeting:

ACUP: Carme Pablo, María Pardo, Alba Morales

EAFIT: Ana María Londoño

Update on UniZagreb & UniPecs Mentoring Association

Date:
April 24, 2013

From Amir Spahic; Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) - University of Zagreb:

Update on both the work we do in FOI and an overview of the University.

It provides relevant information regarding our Mentoring Association with the Roma Department of the University of Pecs as they share similar background with Roma population in Hungary.

Lazlo Komlosi, Vice-Rector of the University of Pecs, represents the Hungarian institution in our Mentoring Association. He could not attend the conference in Tartu, Estonia for professional obligations but his visit to Croatia with a team of 4 other people from Pecs University helped us building on our Action Plan.

Similar background between UniZagreb and UniPecs:

  • Roma / Non-Roma children are learning together in schools
  • The language children are taught in is not their mother tongue

Teachers in Zagreb are learning how to work with Roma children - focus on social inclusion.

We're planning future visits to Hungary and Croatia.
